Press Release 12 March 2021

There is reason to cheer as optimism rules!

Finally, it seems that the industry is geared up for a strong comeback and there are indications that corroborate the vibe. The most recent being the positivity that oozed from the conversation with our latest guest on Marketplace – Anika Passi, Executive Director -Business Operations of the US $ 1.2 billion PDS Multinational Group.
Anika, while addressing the exhibitors on the Marketplace in the fourth edition of the unique B2B Matchmaking initiative, was very confident that the fashion retail market was ready to boom and shopping trends were about to explode, like never before. She indicated that the buyers across the world, including her core markets - Australia and New Zealand were ready to buy and it was up to the manufacturers to grab the opportunity with products that were in demand like athleisure, as also move towards fashionwear, as consumers were now looking to get back to work and physical appearance will again gain importance!
Innovative yarns, smart textiles, good designs and sustainable solutions/products are predicted as the trends for 2021 and Anika invited the attendees to put forth what new they had on offer and get ready for increased sourcing, as many retail shelves were running out of stock. In fact, she made it very clear that the market at all levels from mass to high street was gearing up for revenge buying.
With over 25 plus years of experience in Fashion, Home and other Lifestyle products, Anika has very recently joined the PDS group after a stint with The Warehouse NZ, wherein she was responsible for setting up the sourcing operation in the region. What attracted her to the company was the fact that PDS is a financially stable, technology-savvy and design- driven organization that works with nearly 180+ retailers in the world.
As vaccinations become more easily available and businesses start to communicate, what will make the difference and is in fact making the difference is the attitude of the players and their willingness to work in collaboration with the supply chain to meet the evolving needs of the consumer in product, turnarounds and price points. Anika also shared that long term relations that were based on trust and flexibility were going to dictate the buyer supplier equation in the times to come.
The ASW Marketplace is in fact supporting its exhibitors and sponsors to prepare for the future and vendor meets are only a step in that direction. With things improving, the organisers of ASW hope to announce the dates of the BigShow – ASW 2021 soon, even as the Marketplace will continue to create opportunities. The platform would keep conducting several activities on the ASW Marketplace so as to continue as a catalyst between the manufacturers and the buyers.
Both the ASW Big show and the Marketplace are very important platforms where one stands to complement the other. While the Marketplace lays the foundation for making contacts and creating synergies, the same can be strengthened at the physical event - The ASW BigShow. Together the combination of Marketplace and BigShow is a formidable marketing tool for the exhibitors.
