Retail Stalwarts buzzing about Apparel Sourcing Week 2019!

With just two months to go for India’s premiere sourcing show, Apparel Sourcing Week 2019, the excitement among the top Indian retailers is on the rise. In anticipation of the first-ever networking platform that brings together Indian buyers and South-Asian manufacturers, all retailers have their own expectations from the event. Some are keen about meeting fellow retailers through the six retail-oriented panel discussions while the others are talking about how meeting over 50 manufacturers can help make future sourcing collaborations a smooth process.
Sohail Patca, Director of kidswear brand Ruff Kids, shares his enthusiasm about meeting manufacturers from India and other south-east Asian countries, “Ruff Kids as a retailer is looking for creating relations with exporters that are very organised and follow strict timelines, which is why this platform is the best fit for us.” Akhil Duggar Jain, Executive Director, Madame, identifies Bangladesh as the go-to sourcing hub for all retailers globally. As he aptly states, "Apparel Sourcing Week is a great platform for us as we identify Bangladesh as the most trending hub today. The manufacturers over there are very consistent with what they produce and come with a promise of fast turnaround time and consistent quality."
Lakhbir Singh, Director for Killer Jeans, shares the same view as in his own words, "Kewal Kiran Clothing has a vast sourcing network based out of Bangladesh, Japan, China, Korea and Pakistan and we are very keen on expanding the network, especially for knits." Rakesh Singh Kathayat, the C.O.O of sportswear brand Fila India, which is retailing under the umbrella of Cravatex Brands, sees ASW as an occasion to expand Fila’s horizons as both the buyer and the distributor for the SAARC countries. According to Kathayat, "We are glad that someone came up with an idea like this. A few years back, retailers were judged upon by the versatility of their catalogs, but now it is fast servicing that decides the winner. This is why we are keen on attending ASW and meeting manufacturers, especially because India, China and Bangladesh are observing the major chunk of our operations."
Rahul Agarwal, Director of mass retailer Donear, expects ASW to provide a wholesome experience especially for a company like Donear that went from being a fabric manufacturer to a mass apparel retailer and distributor. "This caters to us as both manufacturers and retailers. We are keen to attend ASW with our sourcing team." Nitin Mohan, Director, Blackberrys, deems Apparel Sourcing Week as ‘a very interesting concept’ and adds that, "Blackberrys would love to be a part of the event as one of our very important categories, denim, is not manufactured in-house and we outsource denims and PU jackets from the best of the manufacturers across India as well as outside India. We would love to make our vendor base more efficient."
Keen on being a part of the retail panel discussions and seminars, Vipul Mathur, C.O.O. of menswear casual brand Mufti avers, "It is a wonderful opportunity for retailers to meet and talk about how the dynamic Indian market is moving forward, especially for a homegrown brand such as Mufti." Neeraj Nagpal, the Sourcing Head for ABFRL’s Pantaloons, shares similar thoughts as he mentions, "The seminars have been chosen efficiently and cover all facets of the Indian retail, from both demand and supply perspectives. We are looking forward to being a part of these seminars at ASW."
Observing such tremendous levels of enthusiasm from retailers and manufacturers alike, Apparel Sourcing Week is the place to be for the stakeholders of the Indian Fashion & Apparel industry on 15th and 16th March, 2019 at ITC Gardenia, Bangalore.
