Apparel Sourcing Week, India, conceived by Apparel Resources, the publishers of Apparel Online conducted the first edition of the show in March 2019. 30 top apparel manufacturers from Bangladesh, India and Hong Kong exhibited their latest collection under 12 product categories. Over 3000 visitors, including sourcing teams from 500 retailers and brands thronged the corridors over the two-day period. The show also witnessed visitation of over 500 International buyers through their regional offices and buying houses. The success of ASW 19 indicates a great future for the concept as a sourcing fair that brings together manufacturers from Asia and retailers/ brands from across the world on to one comprehensive sourcing platform.

Panel Discussions

36 industry experts from retail, manufacturing, technology and logistics debated and discussed topics that are and will impact the retail industry over the next few years in a series of 6 sessions. Every panel saw the panellist and audience exchange ideas and emerge from the platform enriched with the experience.

Workshops

4 workshops, which included 2 Vendor Sessions one each by Myntra & Reliance Trends and 2 Trend Sessions by Fashion Snoops for SS-20 saw a full house. The workshops were practical, detailed and highly informative with a clear indication of directions and how to be preferred suppliers.

Open-House Sessions

2 open discussion forums on Influencer Marketing and its importance with some relevant case studies by WINKL and I open house Consumer Behaviour Trends session by WGSN gave the participants an opportunity to hear speakers on interesting and current topics that are changing market dynamics.

Networking Dinner

The gala Networking Dinner on the evening of Day 1 was a very well attended affair where over 50 top CXOs from the retail industry interacted and enjoyed a relaxed evening with special industry invitees and exhibitors. The ‘invite only’ platform provided an exclusive opportunity to connect and network with prospective business partners and colleagues over drinks, dinner and some fun.

Expert speakers from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and India will unfold the strengths of each country as a sourcing destination and why a particular product is best sourced from a specific country in terms of range, price, quality and manufacturing excellence.

11.25 - 12.20

The 1-hour workshop by Ms. Melissa Moylan, VP, Creative Director - Womenswear at Fashion Snoops and a recognized expert in trend forecasting, is centred on SS20 Women's/men’s trend forecast. The workshop will deep diving into the essential trends, key apparel items, patterns, graphics, materials, design details, colour and colour combos. This would give the audience a solid idea about their product direction including takeaways relevant to designers/ manufacturers/ exporters/ brands. Also, it would give them a clear insight of forecast and the connection with culture and product development.

The session will have experts of Indian retail talk about the challenges and opportunities in fashion retail, as also product categories that are growth segments, consumer demographics and changing preferences that are/will influence Indian Retail.

Reliance Trends Ltd the apparel & accessory specialty format of the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), India`s largest private sector company was conceived with a vision to deliver fashion, selection and quality of products and experience at great prices to its consumers. Reliance Trends has more than 300 stores across the length and breadth of the country. With presence in more than 160 cities, Reliance Trends today is India’s largest fashion destination, selling 2 lakh garments a day!

16.05 - 17.00

With the retail scenario now becoming Omni-Channel, it is very important for manufacturers to gear up their systems and manufacturing capabilities to supply both bricks & mortar and online stores. The session will also address the growth potentials and challenges from a retailer`s perspective.

Myntra operates as a standalone brand under Flipkart ownership, focusing primarily on "fashion-conscious" consumers. By 2014, when Flipkart acquired Myntra, its portfolio included about 1,50,000 products of over 1000 brands, with a distribution area of around 9000 pincodes in India. The online giant has exlusive sourcing rights for many of the brands on its platform including celebrity brand HRX. In September 2017, Myntra negotiated the rights to manage Esprit Holdings's 15 offline stores in India. Myntra reported a net loss of ₹151.20 crore in in the financial year 2017-18.

A panel discussion on the products, quantities, sourcing strategies and delivery expectations of both the Indian and International brands sourcing for Indian stores focus on new challenges and also growth areas like Opportunity Buying.

14.30 - 15.25

Professionals and experts handling imports and exports will identify and address the pain-points. As also provide advice to manufacturing looking at working with India on the Dos and Don'ts of exporting to India. Issues specific to Logistics , Banking and Customs to be discussed.

15.30 - 16.25

The session will talk about the technologies that are supporting retail growth and making the industry more organised with technologies like AI/Data Analytics, Twin Digital, AR and VR.
